(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa commended the continuous assistance being received from China for the economic revival of Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister’s Media Division said.
The Prime Minister made this commendation when Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong visited him at Temple Trees on Wednesday.
“The Prime Minister said that he extends his gratitude to the Chinese government for the assistance being provided to Sri Lanka by China for controlling the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccination programme.
“Ambassador Qi Zhenhong who added his good wishes for the success of the procedure of vaccinations in Sri Lanka expressed his belief that constant assistance will be provided by his government.
“He recalled that China had awarded medical supplies, vaccines as well as financial assistance for Sri Lanka from the very beginning in order to overcome the challenge of the Covid pandemic.
“The Chinese Ambassador emphasized that the bilateral money exchange agreement of Yuan 10 billion between the People’s Bank of China (POBC) and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) would help in strengthening the feelings of global investors and increase trust in the economy of Sri Lanka.
“The Chinese Ambassador also expressed his belief that the year 2022 which marks the 65 anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and completes 70 years since the end of completing the rubber-rice pact will be an important year for bilateral relations between China-Sri Lanka.
“The Ambassador also extended the Chinese President’s good wishes on behalf of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday which falls next month,” the press release added.
