(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage announced that permission will be granted to the private sector to import Chemical fertilizers, Weedicides, and Pesticides with effect from Wednesday (24).
At the weekly cabinet media briefing at the Government Information Department today, the Minister of Agriculture stated that a gazette notification will be issued today regarding the permission to import chemical fertilizers. He said the gazette notification banning such imports will be revoked with effect from Wednesday (24).
The Minister said that this step was taken as a government sensitive to the needs of the people. However, there will be no change in the government’s policy on green agriculture, he stressed.
Accordingly, the private will be granted permission to import chemical fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides with effect from today and the farmers can now purchase chemical fertilizers from the open market.
