Sri Lanka detects first omicron case in returnee from South Africa

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lankan health authorities said a person infected with the Omicron Covid variant has been identified for the first time in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Hemantha Herath, Deputy Director General of Health Services, said the first case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been detected from a Sri Lankan National who returned from South Africa.

This was officially announced by the Health Promotion Bureau, according to data from the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health.
