(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The Central Bank of Sri Lanka urges the public to be more vigilant as counterfeit notes are circulating in large numbers across the country.
The Central Bank asks the public that if a suspicious currency note is found, check for the security sign and take action to retain it.
The Central Bank instructs the public to take a note of the person who brought the note, his appearance, and record the details of the vehicle if he came in a vehicle, the value of the note and the serial number and notify to the nearest police station or to the counterfeit currency unit of the CID at 011-2422176 and 011-2326670.
Police say possession, use, or printing of counterfeit notes is an offense punishable by a fine or imprisonment or both.
