(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government issued a Circular extending the retirement age of public servants up to 65 years yesterday(06).
Secretary, J.J. Ratnasiri said that accordingly, the retirement age of public servants will be extended to 65. However, this will not apply to those serving in the Armed Forces.
However, the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Association previously opposed the extending of the retirement age of public servants to 65.
The Association said in a letter to the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services and Provincial Councils that the retirement age should be 62 instead.
Meanwhile, the Circular pertaining to the rectification of the teacher-principal salary anomaly was issued yesterday by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government J.J. Rathnasiri.
It is said that this Circular has been issued in accordance with the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting held on August 30 last year and at the Cabinet meeting held on January 3 this year regarding the elimination of teacher-principal salary anomalies.
Accordingly, the salary revision should be made on a step-by-step basis. The salary scales GE 4-2016, GE 3-2016, GE 2-2016 and GE 1-2016 of the Sri Lanka Principals’ Service, Sri Lanka Teacher Advisors’ Service and Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service are being revised respectively.
The Circular has been issued with effect from January 1 this year and has been approved by the National Pay Commission and the Ministry of Finance.
