(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Treasury to issue Rs. 93 billion to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to complete a debt payment of Rs. 96 billion to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Sumith Wijesinghe has said that it would help to purchase oil and to re-pay the debt.
Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila said the President had instructed the Governor of the Central Bank to issue dollars for clearing of two fuel tankers anchored at sea.
Accordingly, steps will be taken to release the required fuel and furnace oil to the Ceylon Electricity Board in the future, the Minister of Energy further stated.
Meanwhile, Minister Gamini Lokuge yesterday said that government is trying to continuously supply electricity without interruption.
