(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The 3500 metric tons of LP gas released Thursday (17) is only enough for a two and a half day supply, a senior official of Litro Gas has told the media.
Litro says it will start supplying 120,000 cylinders of domestic gas daily from today with the unloading of 3,500 metric tons of gas from yesterday afternoon.
Litro supplies about 200 metric tons (MT) of gas per day to the industry and produces the three cylinders of 12.5 kg, 5 kg and 2.5 kg, with the remaining gas, the official said.
The official said that a metric ton of gas can produce 80 cylinders of 12.5 kg and the number of cylinders produced per tonne will be determined by the capacity of the cylinders.
Daily requirement of 12.5 kg domestic gas cylinders is 80,000 and it requires 1,100 metric tons of gas to meet the requirement, according to the official.
The official further said that the dealers and the public have around 7 million gas cylinders of various sizes issued by Litro, out of which 5.5 million cylinders are 12.5 kg cylinders.
