INTERPOL Red Notices issued for 132 Sri Lankan drug traffickers

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Senior Police Media Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said INTERPOL Red Notices have been issued for 132 Sri Lankan drug traffickers, who have fled the country.

Most of them are hiding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, said Senior Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.

Senior Police Media Spokesman said the police have commenced an extensive investigation into the assets of drug traffickers.

The Police together with the Police Narcotics Bureau and Special Task Force (STF) have arrested 95,000 individuals last year, during raids conducted by the units.

Among the confiscated evidence were 1,630 kilos of Heroin, 15,000 kilos of cannabis and about 377 kilos of synthetic drugs.

According to the Spokesman, so far this year nearly 800 suspects have been arrested in connection to drug trafficking operations. Along with the arrests, 360 kilos of heroin and 2100 kilos of cannabis have been seized.

Senior DIG Ajith Rohana further stated that drug raids have been increased during the Sinhala Hindu New Year and it has been decided to reward those who provide information.
