(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – A special debate is to be held in Parliament today regarding the crisis situation in the country. The decision was taken during the party leaders meeting in Parliament yesterday (05).
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has stated that there are two solutions to the current crisis. One solution is for the president to resign voluntarily and elect a president from parliament.
The Speaker has pointed out that the other solution is to form an interim government.
It is reported that a motion regarding the dissolution of Parliament has also been submitted. However, several party leaders have expressed their displeasure over going to the polls at this moment due to the current economic crisis in the country.
Accordingly, the party leaders’ meeting held yesterday ended without an agreement. According to a decision taken at the meeting, a special debate will be held in Parliament today regarding the current crisis in the country. This debate will continue tomorrow as well.
