(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe instructed the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda and the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera to take necessary measures to provide immediate relief to the problems faced by the fishermen in the face of the ongoing fuel crisis.
During the parliamentary session held last Wednesday (06), MPs Dilip Vedaarachchi and Mayantha Dissanayake have raised the issues faced by the fishermen due to the fuel crisis and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe has given a date to hold a discussion with the participation of all parties.
Accordingly, the discussion was held today (8) in the morning at the Prime Minister’s Office with the participation of all parties.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera gave an explanation about the problems faced by the fisher community due to the fuel crisis.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe instructed to appoint a committee under the chairmanship of Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda and Petroleum Minister Kanchana Wijesekera and to take urgent measures to provide relief to the problems faced by the fisher community.
Members of Parliament Dilip Vedaarachchi, Nimal Lanza, Niroshan Perera, Piyal Nishantha, Sanath Nishantha, Mayantha Dissanayake became the other members of the committee.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe mentioned that a representative representing the Treasury will be nominated for the membership of the committee and also instructed to appoint the secretaries and officials of the relevant ministries as members of this committee.
