(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung today called on President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The meeting was held at the Presidential Secretariat.
Congratulating the President, the Ambassador engaged in a friendly conversation with him, the President’s Media Division said.
The two parties discussed advancing the existing relations between Sri Lanka and the United States through a strong approach.
The Ambassador also assured that she would provide support for the future activities of the new government.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Ambassador commenting on the meeting with the President on Twitter said the President Wickremesinghe takes office at a time when Sri Lanka stands at a crossroads.
She said they discussed how it arrived at this point of economic and political crisis, and how they can work together to navigate toward a brighter future for all.
“Our countries and our people have been friends and partners for more than 70 years, relationships that will flourish in a Sri Lanka that embraces good governance, respects human rights, and listens to the aspirations of its people,” Chung said.
