(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission in Sri Lanka has been extended by one day as the discussions are still ongoing, Mission Chief Peter Breuer said in statement.
“The IMF Mission in Colombo has been extended by one day because discussions are still ongoing with the authorities,” he said.
Breuer further said they planned to conclude the mission and issue a press release on Thursday, September 1st.
Meanwhile Reuters reported that Sri Lanka and the International Monetary Fund have reached a preliminary agreement on an emergency loan.
The IMF mission headed by Peter Breuer arrived in Sri Lanka on August 24th and the mission was to conclude today. The team has held discussions with various parties including the President, the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader and Central Bank governor and other officials to reach a staff level agreement.
