(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The Ella Odyssey train running for tourists from Colombo Fort to Badulla has added another journey. Accordingly, the number of weekly journeys of the “Ella Odyssey” has been doubled.
Sri Lanka Railways said the decision has been made considering requests made by local and international tourists.
The inter-city super luxury train between Colombo and Badulla normally runs only on weekends.
Deputy General Manager of Railways Mr. VS Polwattage said that starting from the 08th September, the train will run from Colombo Fort to Badulla every Thursday morning at 05.30am. On Friday, the train will leave Badulla station at 09.50 am.
Railway Deputy General Manager VS Polwattage further mentioned that the train will run on weekends as before.
The “Ella Odyssey” currently leaves the Colombo Fort Railway station at 5.30am on Saturdays and reaches Badulla at 3.55pm.
It leaves the Badulla station at 9.50am on Sunday and is scheduled to reach Colombo at 7.20pm.
The “Ella Odyssey” stops at Gampaha, Veyangoda, Polgahawela, Rambukkana, Peradeniya, Kandy, Nawalapitiya, Nanuoya, Haputale, Diyatalawa, Bandarawela, and Ella stations before ending the journey in Badulla.
During the journey the train will stop at interesting sightseeing spots including St. Clair Falls, Great Western Railway Station, Elgin Falls, Pattipola Summit Level, Idalgashinna Railway Station, Demodara 9-Arch Bridge, and Demodara Bridge and tunnel.
Meanwhile, tickets for the train can be reserved 14 days in advance.
