(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – “First struggle is over and let’s start the second struggle to build the country from here,” Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickramasinghe said inviting all parties to join him for the effort setting aside any differences.
The President said his invitation is not for himself but to make the program of building a powerful country for the next generation a success.
The President stated this while addressing the gathering during the United National Party’s 76th anniversary celebrations at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo Tuesday (06).
The President emphasized that in order to create a powerful debt-free Sri Lanka in the next 25 years, we must work through a strong policy framework, and this program must be implemented with a strong policy framework that will not change every five years.
Let’s build the country together’ was the main theme of this year’s UNP anniversary.
The special feature of this year is that the United National Party is holding an anniversary event with state leadership after 28 years. It is also special that this is the first anniversary of United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe after assuming the office of President.
An open invitation was made to all the party leaders who represent the Parliament of Sri Lanka and those who do not to participate in the party anniversary, symbolizing the unity of all for the building of the country.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and many other party leaders participated in the anniversary celebration.
Political party leaders including EPDP Leader Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Douglas Devananda, Minister of Public Safety Tiran Alles, General Secretary of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP Sagara Kariyawasam, Leader of Muslim Congress MP Rauf Hakeem, Leader of All Ceylon Muslim Congress SJB MP Rishad Bathiudeen, National Muslim Alliance Member of Parliament Ali Sabri, Badulla District SJB MP Arvinda Kumar, and National Congress Leader MP A. L. M. Ataullah attended the event,
Harin Fernando, Minister of Lands and Tourism, and Manusha Nanayakkara, Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, who were elected to the Parliament from Samagi Jana Balawegaya, were also present at the anniversary event.
