(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe is scheduled to participate in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II which is to be held at Westminster Abbey, London on September 19, the President’s Media Division announced.
President Wickremesinghe visited the British High Commission in Colombo on Sunday morning to express his condolences over the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The President was received by the British High Commissioner Sarah Hulton.
The President made a condolence note in the special book of condolence placed at the British High Commission and appreciated the great services rendered by the monarch, , to the people all over the world during seven decades.
The Queen, who reigned for 70 years this year, passed away on September 8 at Balmoral Castle. The state funeral for the Queen will be held at Westminster Abbey on September 19.
As a mark of respect to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, Sri Lanka’s national flag is to be flown at half-mast at all state buildings while a day of mourning has been declared for September 19.
Queen Elizabeth II was Sri Lanka’s head of state until May 1972 when the island left the British sovereign to become a republic.
