The ‘Bell’, a new adding to ‘Sandahiru Seya’, vested on devotees

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The driving force behind the Sandahiru Seya construction project, Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne arriving at the Temple premises in Anuradhapura vested the newly constructed Temple ‘Bell’ on devotees amidst the religious blessings yesterday (Oct 22).

The Bell Column erected with ancient structural design is 25feet in its height and the Bell is 200 kilos in its weight. Eye-catching stonework can be seen at the lower part of the Bell Column.

The ‘Bell’ is an instrument that symbolizes a Buddhist temple and it is considered an essential device since indicates auspiciousness and spiritual significance while attracting positive energy. It ideally makes a pleasing ringing sound with a universal noise that slowly vanishes to the surroundings, according to the ancient believes.
Bells release a unique frequency of sound to call upon pilgrims, devotees and villagers for temple rituals, passing of messages and at times to alert on likely disasters.

According to the designer of temple architecture Col. Mohan Kumar, the ‘Sasunata Aruna’ association had sponsored the new adding to the Stupa premises.

During the visit to this sacred venue Gen. Gunaratne also delved into the balance work of peripherals structures of the Stupa while discussing the progress of admin building, stone engravings, construction of museum and the land area earmarked for the devotees’ vehicle park.

Ven. Maha Sanga, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Shavendra Silva, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage, Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne, senior military officers, project officers and devotees were present at the ceremony.
