(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha says that the current dress code for teachers in government schools will not be changed.
Attending the Innovation Exhibition held at Vivekananda Vidyalaya as the chief guest, Minister Premajayantha pointed out that the school system depends on the discipline of 4.2 million children and they follow the Principal and the teachers while at school.
The Minister of Education stressed that for any reason, the Ministry of Education will not make any changes in the clothes worn by the teachers and children to the schools and that the country’s culture should not be changed based on the concepts of other countries and the West.
Speaking further, Minister Susil Premajayantha said, especially the Maha Sangha, Hindu, Muslim priests, elders, academics, alumni associations and development societies, after seeing a story published in a newspaper, requested him not to change the only cultural identity of ours.
“I believe that 99% of our teachers do not agree to change the dress code. We wear our usual clothes. Let’s keep our culture. Let’s make our children disciplined in school. We don’t have to work according to an agenda that others want, even though some people are trying to change the culture, the Ministry of Education is not making any changes in the teachers’ clothes,” he said.
The Innovation Exhibition at Colombo Vivekananda School was opened today under the patronage of the Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha. Member of Parliament Mr. Mano Ganesan, Professor Mr. Siva Sivanandan and others joined this event.
