(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a workshop on capacity development for diplomats currently serving at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 13 November, 2022.
The workshop was a vital tool in Sri Lanka’s diplomatic outreach in line with the Economic Diplomacy Programme of the Ministry.
Experts representing Ministries and Departments such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Foreign Employment Bureau and the Board of Investment conducted an interactive workshop on the role of economic diplomacy, strategies for attracting investments, exploring vibrant markets for Sri Lankan products and services overseas, enhancing tourism and promotion of foreign employment opportunities. The focus was on the role of diplomats in that process.
Addressing the participants, Foreign Secretary Aruni Wijewardena pointed out that the workshop was tailor made to cover a range of topics and approaches that would benefit the diplomats when serving in Sri Lanka Missions overseas, particularly under the current circumstances where economic diplomacy is vital. Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Deshal De Mel as Key-Note Speaker made the first presentation.
The workshop included participants from the Sri Lanka Foreign Service as well from Sri Lanka Administrative Service and Sri Lanka Accountants’ Service currently serving in the Ministry. Director General Economic Affairs, M.E.M. Weninger moderated the discussion.
