(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says that Russia is a reliable friend who has always stood for the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.
The Prime Minister made this observation when he met the new Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mr. Levan S. Dzhagaryan at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister recalled the support provided by the former Soviet Union to the industrialization of Sri Lanka decades ago by setting up a steel factory in Oruwala and a tire factory in Kelaniya. The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the scholarships offered to Sri Lankan students by Lumumba Russian universities.
The Ambassador assured the Prime Minister that Russia will provide maximum support for Sri Lanka’s economic progress. The possibility of large-scale Russian investments in Sri Lanka was also discussed in detail.
Prime Minister’s Secretary Mr. Anura Dissanayake also participated in this meeting.
