(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa said the Criminal Investigation Department so far has recorded statements of 58 people in connection with the brutal murder of Janashakthi Group director Dinesh Schaffter (51) who was assaulted and strangled in his car at Borella Cemetery on 15 December.
He said among those whose statements were recorded are Schaffter’s wife, veteran cricket commentator Brian Thomas, and announcer Chamuditha Samarawickrama.
In addition, video footage from nearly 50 CCTV cameras have been inspected so far, the Police Spokesman said.
The Police Media Spokesman added that no information has been revealed regarding the suspects from the current investigations.
He said that the Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide and Organized Crime Control Unit, Borella Police and intelligence agencies are jointly conducting investigations, and the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department are conducting these investigations assigned into smaller units. The police said that they are conducting these investigations based on physical and scientific evidence.
