(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says that the main expectation in the new year is to reduce inflation and lower the interest rate.
Speaking to the media after paying obeisance at the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy for the New Year, Dr. Weerasinghe said already the steps taken to reduce inflation is showing progress and he expects the existing inflation to gradually decrease during this year.
The Central Bank Governor, who arrived in Kandy this morning with the dawn of the New Year, first received the blessings of the Temple of the Tooth Relic and met with the Chief Prelates of Malwathu and Asgiriya Maha Viharas.
The Central Bank Chief said a progress can be seen currently in controlling the inflation, the main responsibility of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
“Inflation is being successfully controlled and by that when the interest rate comes down, the people will have the opportunity to get rid of the hardships they are currently experiencing and lead a normal life,” Dr. Weerasinghe said.
