(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has decided to develop the city of Kadawatha, where all expressways are connected, as a multimodal transport hub.
Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga has advised the relevant officials to take the necessary steps to hand over the Kadawatha Multimodal Transport Center, which has been completed by now under the project to the public as soon as possible.
All the expressways built in the country connect to each other in Kadawatha city through the Outer Circular Highway. Therefore, the public get the facility of traveling to different parts of the island using expressways.
Kadawatha Multimodal Transport Center has been coonstrcuted by the government at a cost of is 377 million rupees. The construction work of the hub has started in 2019 and the construction has been completed in 2021. It has been built on a land belonging to the Urban Development Authority. A bus terminal that can park around 25 buses has been built.
Apart from this, a car park where office vehicles can be parked and a modern cafeteria have been constructed. A tunnel has also been built here and 18 shops have been built on both sides of the tunnel.
Due to the spread of the Covid virus and the struggling situation in the country, the opening of this multimodal transport center was delayed for over a year.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga points out that the public as well as bus owners are severely inconvenienced due to the delay in the opening of the Kadawatha Multimodal Transport Center with modern facilities for many months.
