Sri Lanka celebrates 75th Independence Day

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka will celebrate her 75th Independence Day with much fervour and enthusiasm. Parades and various cultural parades to celebrate the birth of free Sri Lanka are held around the country to mark this occasion. The National Ceremony to mark this significant milestone of the country will be held in a grand scale at Galle Face Green Colombo today, under the theme “Namo Namo Matha-A step towards a century”.

The National Ceremony to be held under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will begin at 8.30 a.m.

The Armed Forces, the Police, the Civil Defense Force and the National Cadet Corps Sri Lanka will be joining this year’s Independence Day Parade and a number of cultural events will also be added to it. The Army, Air Force, and Navy will display their military power and manpower as well as modern military equipment will be added to the celebrations.

Meanwhile, many foreign diplomats including foreign Ministers, Ambassadors and delegations of foreign countries have arrived in the country to participate in Sri Lanka’s 75th National Independence Day Celebrations.Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs in Japan Takei Shunsuke, Minister of Education of Bhutan Jai Bir Rai, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan H.Rabbani Khar along with their delegations arrived at the BIA, Katunayake yesterday. Apart from that, diplomatic delegations representing India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and The Maldives have arrived in Sri Lanka.
