(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today ordered the Government Analyst and the Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer to safely store the blood samples and body parts of businessman Dinesh Schaffter.
Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya made this order following a request made by the lawyer on behalf of the aggrieved party.
Speaking for the rights of Mr. Dinesh Schaftter’s family, President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne said that when Mr. Schaffter was admitted to the hospital, treatment including two scans was done. He requested to summon all related reports before the court.
Accordingly, the director of the National Hospital was ordered to submit the relevant documents to the court.
The lawyer stated that at the time of the post-mortem examination of Mr. Dinesh Schaffter and before that, an officer of the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer’s office and SOCO officers of the Borella Police had taken photographs.
The court accepted his request to include those photographs in a compact disc and present them before the court and ordered the relevant institutions to take necessary steps.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officials told the court that an unknown biological sample was found at the scene of the crime and requested the court permission to investigate whether those match the people who came to the crime scene
The court allowed the request and issued an order to refer the biological samples and related persons to the Government Analyst’s Department for investigations. Further inquiry in this regard was adjourned to the 17th.
