(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – A discussion regarding the possibility of making Sri Lanka one of the fastest growing economies in the Asia Pacific region through the implementation of the “National Trade Facilitation Platform” concept with e-government reform projects , was held today (01) with the participation of the State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe with Dagan Net (Malaysia), Dialog Asiata (Sri Lanka), W-Tech Global (Sri Lanka), KALE LOGISTICS/TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE- (India) representatives.
It was discussed how it will help the country to attract the much needed Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and to increase exports, trade and commerce, and the possibility of growth in foreign exchange earnings.
This will enable the country’s economy to recover the loss over $1 billion currently lost due to tax, customs and excise revenue, smuggling, theft, fraud, piracy, intentional misrepresentation, gray market, counterfeiting and process inefficiencies, etc.
The importance of this project to be a strategic gateway not only to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives but also to South East Asia including the countries of Middle East, East Africa and South Africa was also discussed here.
Secretary to the Treasury Mr. Mahinda Siriwardena, Deputy Secretary to the Treasury Mr. R. M. P. Ratnayake, and Director General of the Department of Fiscal Policy Mr. Kapila Senanayaka were also present for this discussion.
