Sri Lankan President expresses gratitude to official bilateral creditors for support for IMF program

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has expressed his gratitude to the support extended by the official bilateral creditors of Sri Lanka to secure a program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability.

In an open letter to Sri Lanka’s official bilateral creditors, President Wickremesinghe expressed his gratitude to the Paris Club creditors and Japan in particular, and to India, and China for enabling cooperation required to secure the IMF deal.

“I would like to praise your diligence and express my gratitude to the Paris Club creditors and Japan in particular, and to India and China for enabling the cooperation required to arrive at this point and explicitly delivering IMF compatible financing assurances as well as the other creditor countries which answered the Paris Club creditors’ call to join them,” he wrote.

The President said the IMF-supported program will be critical to resolve the debt situation and improve the lives of the Sri Lankan people and assured commitment to ensure transparency in the debt negotiations with the creditors.
