(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The credit facility approved by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Sri Lanka is an important step to take Sri Lanka’s economy back to the right direction, says Julie Chang, the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
In a Twitter message, the Ambassador said the United States welcomes the approval of Sri Lanka’s IMF package.
“Great news and an important step on the road toward economic recovery,” Chung said emphasizing that the Sri Lankan government will need to need to continue reforms and conclude debt restructuring agreements to ensure the program and the economy stay on track.
Ambassador Chang said that these long-term reforms should be carried out with good governance and transparency to ensure prosperity for the citizens of the country.
“Structural and lasting reforms that address good governance and transparency are critical to ensure all citizens of Sri Lanka can prosper,” she said.
