Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka charged with rape allowed to enter social media again

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The court order issued against Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka banning him from using social media has been lifted.

Gunathilaka was allowed to use Facebook and Instagram after the court altered the bail following a request made when the case was called today (06) at the Downing Center Court in Sydney.

Danushka Gunathilaka, 31, was arrested on charges of raping a woman he met through Tinder and is currently out on bail.

He is facing four counts of sexual intercourse without consent and has not yet entered a plea.

He was banned from using Tinder and other social media platforms when he was granted bail in November 2022.

His bail conditions were altered in February so he could return to WhatsApp platform.

Today’s alteration to his bail allows Gunathilaka to use his existing Facebook and Instagram accounts, Australian media reported.

Danushka Gunathilaka was arrested by the Sydney Police at the hotel where the Sri Lankan cricket team was staying on November 6th, 2022 in connection with a complaint filed by a 29-year-old woman, a resident of Rose Bay, East of Sydney.

Gunathilaka was released on November 17 last year on a cash bail of 200,000 Australian dollars.

Gunathilaka’s case is scheduled to be called again on April 27.
