Discussions with the Managing Directors of IMF and the World Bank and the State Minister

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe represented Sri Lanka at the G24 Ministerial Meeting at Washington. Tweeting in his official account, he stated that the main focus of this meeting was to Secure Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Amidst Emerging Challenges.

“The meeting provided a platform to discuss key areas where the international community and multilateral institutions, can effectively support the policy efforts of Emerging Market and Developing Economies towards securing sustained and inclusive growth. A key part of this is liquidity support and access to financing, both from official and private sources, in the near-and medium-term.” He added.

Further,a meeting has been held with the Managing Director of IMF Ms.Kristalina Georgieva and the State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe. In this meeting, the State Minister has expressed the gratitude for providing the leadership to support Sri Lanka to overcome the difficulties faced during the economic crisis and has reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to secure the IMF programme while continue to implement. Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Mr.Mahinda Siriwardhane also participated in the discussion.
Having a discussion with Ms.Anne Bjerde, the Managing Director of World Bank, State Minister has explained how Sri Lanka’s reform agenda would support economic recovery. In this discussion, the Managing Director has reassured the support from the World Bank in strengthening the social safety nets and economic stabilization of Sri Lanka.
