(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Another ship carrying one million eggs imported from India has reached Colombo Port last night (20).
Asiri Valisundara, Chairman of the State Trading (General) Corporation, said the Department of Animal Production and Health today (21) will take the samples of the eggs for testing.
Meanwhile, Department of Animal Production and Health has taken the samples of the egg stock that reached the island on the 15th yesterday. Its report is expected in another four days.
Up to now, Sri Lanka has imported 5 million eggs from India. The STC Chairman said that the eggs will continue to be issued to large-scale bakery owners and hotel owners at a price of 35 rupees each. Meanwhile, an extraordinary gazette notification was issued yesterday declaring maximum retail price for eggs. According to the gazette notification eggs cannot be sold above Rs. 44 for a white egg and Rs. 46 for a brown egg.
