(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said the proposal of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to revise electricity tariffs on the 1st of July, has been submitted to the electricity regulator, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Monday.
The CEB has submitted the proposal according to the government policy decisions and tariff filling requirements to adjust the tariffs biannually on January 1st & July 1st every year.
The Minister said the CEB has prepared the proposal considering the actual generation data, actual price of inputs, generation mix and forecast for 2023 while giving the maximum benefit of adjustments to low consumption users.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the CEB has completed the full coal requirement for this season.
He said the 30th coal cargo ship is currently unloading at Norochcholai and with that the full coal requirement of CEB for this season will be completed.
The Minister assured that there will be “No Black Outs or Power Cuts” as speculated earlier by CEB unions and media reports due to coal shortages.
However, the third generator of the Lakvijaya Power Plant at Norochcholai will be shut down from June 13th for a period of 100 days for scheduled major overhaul maintenance work.
The Minister said power generation will be managed without any power cuts with other Thermal Power Plants.
