Prime Minister instructs Governors to take immediate steps to prevent the spread of dengue

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena advised the Provincial Governors to take urgent measures to prevent the spread of dengue with the intervention of all the relevant authorities.

Prime Minister Gunawardena gave instructions to the Governors at a discussion held at Temple Trees yesterday (25) to review the progress of dengue control programs.

The discussion was held with the participation of Governors, Provincial Council Secretaries, Provincial Government Commissioners and Provincial Health Service Directors through Zoom technology.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of collecting information about the spread of dengue in their jurisdictions and taking measures to control the disease since priority should be given to preventing the spread of the disease through the continuous implementation of programs carried out by the regional medical offices of health.

The governors commented on the measures taken so far in the respective provinces to control the dengue disease and its progress. They mentioned that as there is a tendency for dengue mosquitoes to breed around construction sites, schools and places of religious worship and more attention will be paid to keep such places clean with the contribution of health and security sectors. State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Wakkambura, State Minister of Home Affairs Ashoka Priyantha, Prime Minister’s Secretary Anura Dissanayake, Ministry of Public Administration Secretary Ranjith Ashoka and many other officials participated in this event.
