Sri Lanka Health Ministry to review the safety of two types of medicines obtained from India

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Health has decided to re-examine the quality of two types of medicines following the death of some patients after taking the medicines and some others suffering from various allergies, Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Janaka Sri Chandragupta said.

He said that the two types of drugs that have led to controversy have been received in this country under the Indian credit facility.

The secretary mentioned that the two types of drugs have been used in the country subject to the registration of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health stated that a special committee has been appointed to investigate the reported cases of patients dying and suffering from allergies after the use of the medicines.

The Ministry Secretary said the relevant committee is headed by the Director General of Health Services.

The secretary said the committee will also look into the method of recovering compensation from the pharmaceutical companies for the people who died after using the medicine and suffered from allergies.
