(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Nalin Fernando says that it has been decided to distribute eggs imported from India to supermarkets and grocery stores.
Minister Fernando said the State Trading Corporation will arrange related arrangements by next week.
He added that they are hoping to release around 100,000 eggs to the market daily and the eggs will sold for Rs. 35 each at all Sathosa outlets.
Earlier this year, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal to import eggs from India to alleviate the shortage of eggs in the local market and also to curb the rising prices. However, the imported eggs were only sold to large-scale bakery owners and hotel owners at a price of 35 rupees each.
