(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The President of France Emmanuel Macron will make a brief visit to Sri Lanka on his return from the south-pacific, French Media reported.
President Macron is expected to depart Papua New Guinea Friday (28) evening and arrive in Sri Lanka Saturday (29) morning,
During his brief stay, French President will meet with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the reports said.
Macron’s visit will be the first visit by a French Head of the State to Sri Lanka.
According to French media, President Macron’s five day visit to New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, began on July 24. He will visit New Caledonia July 24-27, and is scheduled to arrive in Vanuatu on July 27. On July 28, Macron will travel to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, where he will meet with Prime Minister James Marape before leaving at 17:00.
The Elysée, the French presidential palace, has said it is the first time a French president will travel to independent countries in the Pacific region, and not only French overseas territories.
