(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – According to latest data issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, over 800,000 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka so far this year.
During the first 20 days of August, 98,831 tourists arrived in the island and 866,744 tourists have arrived in the country so far this year.
The largest source markets recorded for the month of August were India, the United Kingdom, China followed by Germany, France and Russia.
India was the largest source of tourist visits to Sri Lanka accounting for 20% of the total traffic received in August with 19,804 arrivals. The UK and China accounted for 12% and 7% of the total traffic respectively while Germany accounted for 6%.
Meanwhile, the SLTDA added 12,188 from the United Kingdom, 6,964 from China, 6,241 from Germany, 5,215 from France, 4,552 from Russia, 4,334 from Italy, 3,678 from Australia, 3,611 from Canada and 3,460 tourists from Spain have also visited Sri Lanka in the first 20 days of this month.
