(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The 37th Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has been arranged to be held in February next year in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Agriculture announced.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera says that the Cabinet of Ministers have approved the Cabinet paper forwarded by him to get the government’s support to hold this international conference in the country.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives form 44 countries will participate in the conference.
Due to the Easter Sunday attack, the Covid pandemic situation and the economic crisis that affected the country, no International Conference has been held in Sri Lanka for many years, with the participation of such a large number of countries, the Ministry said.
Minister of Agriculture has instructed the officials of the Ministry recently to arrange for the UNFAO – Asia Pacific Regional Conference to be held at the highest level in the country.
The Minister has also mentioned that more than 2000 delegates from 44 countries are expected to participate in this conference.
