(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has been rated ‘A-’ by the Global Finance Magazine in its 2023 Central Banker Report Cards released on August 23.
The Central Banker Report Cards 2023 ranked Central Bank Governors from ‘A’ to ‘F’ of 101 countries based on inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability, and interest rate management.
Sri Lanka’s inflation has returned to desired mid-single digit levels in recent months from historic highs recorded in 2022, interest rates are being normalized, and volatility in the exchange rate has been curtailed.
The economy is set to record positive growth from the latter part of 2023, with firming investor sentiments, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The Bank Governors Shri Shaktikanta Das of India, Thomas J. Jordan of Switzerland and Nguyen Thi Hong of Vietnam earned an “A+” grade in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023 while the governors of Central Banks of Brazil, Israel, Mauritius, New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, Taiwan and Uruguay earned an ‘A’ grade.
Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe was joined by the governors of Central Banks of Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Iceland, Indonesia, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, South Africa and South Korea in the list of those bank governors who earned an A- grade.
The Central Banker Report Cards, published annually by Global Finance since 1994, grade the central bank governors of 101 key countries, territories and districts, including the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States.
