(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that steps will be taken to pay compensation to farmers for the paddy fields damaged by the rain.
The Minister has emphasized that hundreds of acres of paddy fields which were ready to be harvested in Hambantota district have been destroyed due to the heavy rains in recent days.
Accordingly, Minister Amaraweera has said that he has instructed the officials of the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board to provide proper compensation to the farmers who have suffered crop damage due to the rain as well as drought.
Accordingly, the officials have started collecting related information, the minister further said.
