(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The second day’s opening ceremony of “Techno 2023” commenced under the graceful presence of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa 21 October 2023 as the chief guest.

This National Engineering and Technology Exhibition, which commenced on the 20th of October 2023, promises to be a dynamic event running through the 23rd of October 2023 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).

Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, an accomplished pilot and professional engineer, articulated the significant role that technological innovations within the Defense Forces play in bolstering Sri Lanka’s economy in his opening address.

Organized by the Institute of Engineering of Sri Lanka (IESL), the 35th Techno Exhibition serves as a profound source of inspiration for nurturing future innovators. This year’s exhibition theme, ‘Building the Economy through Engineering Technology,’ underscores its purpose not merely as an exhibition but as a platform for constructive dialogue, knowledge sharing, and engineering collaboration.

In response to IESL’s request, the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) participated in this annual exhibition, uniting with the other two sister services under the banner of the College of Military Engineering and Technology in Sri Lanka (CMETSL). The joint showcase of tri-services engineering prowess at the exhibition has been impressive, featuring an array of military products and groundbreaking innovations across diverse engineering disciplines. These exhibits range from specialized military applications to those with broader utility, emphasizing the engineering capabilities of the tri-services.

The SLAF’s participation in the exhibition stands out, with a focus on presenting research and development initiatives. These encompass projects such as Lihiniya MK I and hand-launched UAVs, an IP-based ground-to-air communication system, an ADS-B receiver for aviation applications, and object detection using artificial neural network technology.

Notably, the Director General Aeronautical Engineering (DGAE), Air Vice Marshal Muditha Mahawattage, Director of Research and Development (DR&D), Group Captain Chandimal Hettiarachchi along with officers representing various engineering formations, were also present during the opening ceremony of this auspicious second day.
