Sri Lanka’s Colombo-based inflation edges up to 1.5 percent in October 2023

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers’ Price Index (CCPI) marginally increased to 1.5 percent in October 2023 from 1.3 percent in September, the Department of Census and Statistics reported Tuesday.

The CCPI for all items for the month of October 2023 decreased to 191.4 from 191.8 in September 2023.

The Year on Year inflation of Food Group remained at -5.2 percent in October and the Year on Year inflation of Non Food Group increased to 4.9 percent in October 2023 from 4.7 percent in the previous month.

For the month of October 2023, on year‐to‐year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was -1.76 percent and the contribution of Non Food items was 3.25 percent.
