(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Police has launched a new system streamlining the process of identifying criminals arrested over drug-related activities.
The Police said a specialized data system has been implemented connecting all Police stations for this purpose.
Under the new system, the Police will be able to retrieve any past criminal records by feeding input of any individual arrested related to a drug offence.
The Police Department revealed that details on all arrests related to drug offences thus far have been updated in the data system.
The official launch of this data system took place at the Police Headquarters on Thursday (Dec 14), under the patronage of Public Security Minister Tiran Alles and Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.
A workshop was also organized for Provincial Senior Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (SDIG), DIGs, and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) in charge of divisions, briefing them on planned special drug-related operations.
