“Let’s join hands with one accord to create a proud country”

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in a New Year message said that the time has come for all Sri Lankans to join hands as one to create a proud nation with peace, happiness and comfort.

Following is the full text of his message:

“The Sinhala and Tamil New Year, which begins with the transition of the Sun from Pisces to Aries, can be called a festive occasion that is celebrated with great joy by the Sinhalese and Tamil people in Sri Lanka and all over the world.

“On this day, which marks the great cultural festival of Sri Lanka, everyone performs the same task in unison at the same auspicious moment and because of this custom, the Sinhala and Tamil New Year is very popular among the rest of the world.

“All the people perform these rituals to the best of their ability on this day, hoping for prosperity and fertility in the coming year.

“But I believe that the past period was not a very good period for Sri Lankans. The country faced many problems such as increased tax burden, rising prices of goods, internal crises, etc., and the current year is a year of elections. I believe that this year, a government aspired by people will be formed in the country and prosperity will come again to our motherland.

“Also, the time has come for all of us to join hands as one to get rid of the existing bankruptcy and make our country a country with a self-sufficient economic pattern and create a proud nation with peace, happiness and comfort.

“We have a huge challenge to put an end to the new normalisation in the country and to re-introduce the life standard that existed in it some time ago. That challenge can be overcome only by the united action of all 22 million people in the country. As we can see a silver lining in every dark cloud, let’s rally to end this dark age and usher in a prosperous age in the truest sense of the word.”
