(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The date for the upcoming Presidential Election will be announced before the end of this month, according to the Chairman of the Elections Commission of Sri Lanka, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake.
Speaking during a special press conference on Tuesday (16), he also said that nothing will affect the holding of the election on that date.
Mr. Ratnayake also said that anyone can consider these dates which are determined in accordance with the Constitution and the President’s Act.
He added that the accepting of nominations for the presidential poll should be carried out between the 16th and 21st day after the publishing of the notice of the poll.
The chairman also explained that the presidential election should be held within 4-6 weeks from the date of acceptance of nominations.
