(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Half-centuries from captain Charith Asalanka and debutant Nishan Madushka powered Sri Lanka to a five-wicket win over West Indies in the rain-affected first ODI in Pallekele.
Chasing a revised target of 232 in 37 overs, the hosts overcame early trouble at 45 for 3, thanks to a 137-run fourth-wicket stand between Asalanka (77 off 71) and Madushka (69 off 54).
Despite both falling in quick succession, Sri Lanka comfortably reached the target with Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage seeing the team home.
Earlier, rain stopped play with West Indies at 185 for 4, leaving Sherfane Rutherford unbeaten on 74.
