Electronic Birth, Marriage, And Death Certificates Launched For Sri Lankans Abroad

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lankans living abroad will now be able to obtain certified copies of birth, marriage, and death certificates electronically, thanks to the new Electronic Birth, Marriage, and Death Certificates (EBMD) facility. The service, set to launch Today (07), will be available through Sri Lankan diplomatic missions worldwide.

M.K. Padmanadan, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained that the EBMD system will replace outdated methods, connecting consular offices directly to the Registrar General’s Department’s data system. “This will allow certificates to be issued directly from consulates, making the process faster and more efficient for Sri Lankans overseas,” he said.

The initiative aligns with the government’s policy of providing efficient and convenient services to the diaspora, ensuring that vital documents can be accessed without the need for physical visits or lengthy processing times.
