Yupun Abeykoon Shines in Comeback with Season’s Best

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lankan Olympian Yupun Abeykoon marked his return to competitive sprinting with an impressive seasonal best of 6.66 seconds in the 60m event, securing second place at the Tampere Indoor Meeting 2025.

The Italy-based sprinter, who made history as the first South Asian male to qualify for the 100m at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, was forced to miss the 2024 edition due to injury.

Now back on track, Abeykoon has set his sights on qualifying for the upcoming World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan, while also preparing for a strong showing at the Asian Athletics Championship 2025.
