Fishermen in 5 Coastal Districts of Tamil Nadu begin indefinite fast

(NAGAPATTINAM, LANKAPUVATH) – Fishermen in Rameswaram on Tuesday (14) ended their week-long protest over the killing of a colleague, allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy, while those from Tamil Nadu’s 5 Coastal Districts began an indefinite fast over the issue and to press for other demands, the Press Trust of India reported.

Sri Lanka calls for immediate investigation into death of Indian fisherman

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Mahinda Amaraweera who has drawn immediate attention to allegations made by Indian fishermen regarding the death of an Indian fisherman, has written to the Defence Ministry Secretary to launch an immediate investigation into the matter to elicit true information.

(PUTTALAM, LANKAPUVATH) – A high Fisheries Department official who accompanied 3 Parliamentarians attached to the Parliamentary Sub Committee on Fisheries and other officials on an observation tour of the Kalpitiya sand bay coral sanctuary facing destruction due to illegal fishing was caught himself by the press with a line and sink in hand trying to catch fish in the coral reef.
