(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Mahinda Amaraweera who has drawn immediate attention to allegations made by Indian fishermen regarding the death of an Indian fisherman, has written to the Defence Ministry Secretary to launch an immediate investigation into the matter to elicit true information.

(CHENNAI, LANKAPUVATH) – Tamil Nadu has protested the “Escalation” in apprehension of its fishermen by Sri Lanka and said the Centre did “Not seem to put adequate pressure” on Colombo regarding the matter, the Press Trust of India reported.

(TAMIL NADU, LANKAPUVATH) – Expressing dismay over the continued arrest of fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy and detention of their boats, Rameswaram fishermen have decided to boycott the 2-day annual Katchatheevu festival at St. Antony’s Church in the islet on March 11 and 12 and launch an indefinite strike from March 7, seeking the release of all arrested fishermen and boats.
