Fishermen in 5 Coastal Districts of Tamil Nadu begin indefinite fast

(NAGAPATTINAM, LANKAPUVATH) – Fishermen in Rameswaram on Tuesday (14) ended their week-long protest over the killing of a colleague, allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy, while those from Tamil Nadu’s 5 Coastal Districts began an indefinite fast over the issue and to press for other demands, the Press Trust of India reported.

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Fifty-three Indian fishermen were on Friday (10) released from a Sri Lankan jail, days after the two countries decided to release fishermen in each other’s custody to defuse tension following the killing of an Indian fisherman allegedly by the Lankan Navy, the Press Trust of India reported.

(TAMIL NADU, LANKAPUVATH) – Fishermen protests in Tamil Nadu’s Rameshwaram continue on the third consecutive day. The protest is being organised demanding compensation for 22-year-old fisherman K. Britso who was allegedly shot by a Sri Lankan Navy officer, the India Today reported on Friday (10).
